About 100 street vendors who opened kiosks alongside Jalan Radjiman, Rawa Terate Urban Village, Cakung Sub-District, East Jakarta, are controlled by 60 Cakung Satpol PP personnel. The raid runs smooth without protest from the street vendors whose all of their kiosks and carts are transported into three trucks to be stored in Satpol PP’s Cakung warehouse.
We received many complaints from the residents about these street vendors. We had sent them written warning, but it was ignored
Head of Cakung Sub-District, Ali Murtadho, said the raid is done because the street vendors set up kiosks on roadside which eventually caused traffic congestion. Although they have been warned repeatedly, they ignored it.
“We received many complaints from the residents about these street vendors. We had sent them written warning, but it was ignored. That’s why we control them now. We will control all illegal street vendors who disturb public order,” he stated.
Street Vendors’ Stalls in Sawah Besar will Be DemolishedBesides controlling street vendors, the officers also demolished tens of illegal buildings stood atop water channel on Jalan Radjiman. Later, the one-kilometer long water channel that is strewn with mud will be dredged.
“Rainy season is getting closer. If not now, when would the raid hold? We hope the street vendors and residents would not utilize water channels to set up stalls or even buildings, because it very much disturbs the maintenance of the water channels,” he uttered.
For information, Jalan Radjiman is a main road that connects industrial areas in Cakung, such as Pulogadung Industrial Area and Cakung Kawasan berikat Nusantara (KBN) Area. Moreover, this road is also an alternative access connecting to East Jakarta Mayor office.
